Abstract

According to statistical figures 875 technical libraries functioned at the Hungarian economical enterprises in 1962. Their stock - except that of the Hungarian Technical Library and Documentation Centre - consisted of more than 3 million documents increased by 431.554 units in one year.
In these libraries 62 per cent of the engineers and technicians but only 4 per cent of the workers studied the technical literature regularly. Within one year they read altogether 2,2 million documents.
The activities of the technical libraries further expanded with various documentary functions, respectively they have been fitting gradually into the structure of the technical information bureaus operating at the enterprises. In 1962, 122 thousand abstracts and 816 thousand pages of translations were accomplished at the network and at the information centres.
However the utilization of the documentory services is not quite satisfactory, as they are used regularly by only 23,4 per cent of engineers and technicians employed in the industry.
