Book-Scented Hungary
Part 1 – Fresh Inspirations for Bold Pathfinding
Abstract
The result of the April 2026 election may offer an opportunity to make up for decades of neglect and establish a comprehensive, strategic approach to book policy planning and implementation in Hungary as well. The latest book strategy initiatives from two Asian countries, China and Vietnam, offer an interesting starting point for the theoretical and conceptual foundations of this approach and for treating the field as a political priority. A thorough review of these issues can go a long way toward exploring the prospects and substance of a new Hungarian book policy, which is what the rest of this study will attempt to do.
