Abstract

My study focuses on semantic enrichment within the GLAM sector. Semantic enrichment is a specialized form of data enrichment where data is enhanced with links to reliable external sources. According to the Europeana definition, semantic enrichment is a method in which data from controlled vocabularies (e.g., namespaces, online lexicons) is linked to existing metadata. In demonstrating these methods, I follow the framework established by Marcia Lei Zeng, one of the pioneers in this field. According to her, enrichment can be applied to structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. I will present several tools and examples for these methods from both Hungarian and international GLAM institutions. Finally, I will briefly discuss how artificial intelligence can be integrated into semantic enrichment processes alongside existing tools.
